Results of the Election Code Referendum

A community referendum was held for the proposed Sandy Lake First Nation Election Code on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. The Election Committee is pleased to present the following results:

Total number of votes cast: 413

Total number of spoiled ballots: 2

Total number of votes for YES: 372

Total Number of votes for No: 39

The percentage required for the election code to pass is 50% plus 1 (one) of the total number of votes cast. The election code, therefore, has gained 72.5% of those who voted in the referendum.

The Election Committee acknowledges the trust that the leadership placed on the committee to do this important piece of work on community governance.

The Election Committee would like to thank all those people who provided guidance, input, and wisdom throughout the community process. It was an honour to work with the people of Sandy Lake and the leadership during this undertaking.

In keeping with the teachings of our elders, we placed God, the Creator, at all times during our work.

Thank you.
